Rae Calamia chose to pursue a career as a physician assistant (PA) after several years of working for a medical device company. Her desire to find a challenging medically based career that directly impacted patients’ lives made becoming a PA the ideal professional option for her. Rae began her career as a PA in 1999 in orthopedic surgery in Santa Rosa, CA. Drawn to the complex challenges of dermatology, and the opportunity to build long-lasting connections with her patients, Rae started her dermatology career in 2005. In her role as a PA, she performs physical exams, establishes diagnoses, orders and evaluates labs and other studies, performs skin biopsies and surgeries, initiates and manages treatment plans, and prescribes medication. Rae holds an undergraduate degree from Penn State University and earned a Masters of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from DeSales University. She is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and is certified by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants). To stay at the top of her field, Rae frequently attends dermatology conferences and lectures.
