Sofwave™ is a revolutionary skin rejuvenation procedure, and – after rigorous research that resulted in impressive and reliable results – we know it is here to stay. This device made its entrance into the aesthetic world with a splash, winning international awards for efficacy, safety, and innovation. It has an FDA-clearance to lift the brow, submental (chin and jawline) and neck, and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Using the skin-sparing power of sound, this device bypasses the epidermis – the skin that we see – and penetrates deep into the tissues that hold the almighty collagen structures. This allows the energy to activate new collagen production without damaging your skin and results in tighter, lifted skin without any downtime.
Whether you are a powerhouse in the courtroom, a diplomat in the living room, or a taskmaster in the classroom, finding enough time to recover from an invasive procedure can be nearly impossible. Don’t put yourself last on the list this time, check out Sofwave™ and see just how swiftly and stealthily you can look and feel more youthful.
Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards dubbed this device the “Best Game Changer” in the 2022 Holy Grail Beauty Awards for good reason. It has been subtly changing the topography of famous faces all over the world since its FDA clearance.

We know that committing time to yourself is sometimes very hard. That’s why the professionals at Bryn Mawr Dermatology do everything we can to make each visit as results-driven as possible. Once you have had a thorough consultation with your provider, and you’ve decided that Sofwave™ is the best way to reach your aesthetic goals, we will set up an appointment at your convenience for treatment.
Because the procedure is non-invasive and does not require the use of exfoliative chemicals or high-intensity light, there is no preparation required. You can continue using all of your Clinical Skin Care products normally, and do not have to avoid sun exposure or modify any of your medications.
When you arrive, we will take your “before” pictures so we can accurately gauge your response to treatment. You will then be made comfortable in one of our procedure suites and your skin will be prepped by cleansing it and applying a topical anesthetic to take the edge off. After you are situated, your Sofwave™ specialist will apply the device applicator to your skin and deliver controlled pulses of ultrasound energy to the treatment areas. This takes between 15 and 45 minutes, based on the territory we are covering.
Each time the device pulses there is a subtle clicking sound that is designed to alert the practitioner that it is time to move on. Each pulse lasts four seconds, and is delivered simultaneously with a burst of contact cooling. Most patients experience some short-lived discomfort during the procedure, but ultimately tolerate it well. Our Sofwave™ experts will communicate with you constantly during your visit to ensure that we answer all your questions and explain each step.
After the treatment is complete you may experience some residual soreness, but there should be no swelling, bruising or redness. You can go directly back to your daily living.
The future is SUPERB!
Sofwave™ uses this acronym to describe its revolutionary new way to deliver energy, and is why this device is one-of-a-kind.
S stands for synchronous, which describes its multiple beam array that delivers 7 simultaneous energy pulses to create 3-D impact on the subcutaneous tissue. This allows for a larger treatment area per pulse, and dramatically shortens the total treatment time.
U stands for Ultrasound. Ultrasound technology is the use of ultrasonic (above the upper limit of human hearing) frequency vibrations to create either a visual or to create heat energy. We have been using Ultrasound for medical purposes since 1956, and with scientific advancements this technology has improved dramatically over time. It is safer and more precise than ever before.
P stands for parallel, which means a series of objects side by side, spaced equidistantly apart. Most skin rejuvenation devices deliver their energy in beams that are perpendicular to the surface of the skin – imagine a single grain of rice on its end. Sofwave™, however, delivers energy in seven synchronous columns, each of which is parallel to the skin, all at the same time. Picture 7 grains of rice on their sides 1.5mm below the skin. This improves the precision of each pulse depth and increases the treatment grid.
B stands for Beam. To get techy here, an “ultrasound wave is produced when an electric current is applied to an array of piezoelectric crystals. This causes distortion of the crystals, makes them vibrate and produce this acoustic wave. The summation of the waves produces an ultrasound beam.“
Starting in our mid-20s, collagen and elastin begin to break down, causing our skin to wrinkle and lose its elasticity. Applying energy to the cells that produce collagen and elastin prompt them to repair themselves and to produce more, brand-new collagen and elastin. Using SUPERB technology, Sofwave™ allows us to deliver this energy in the most accurate, precise and effective way.
Even though Sofwave™ is relatively new to the market, it is catching on quickly because of its astounding success. We rely on a few key factors to set us apart from the competition. The aesthetic treatments offered by Bryn Mawr Dermatology are delivered by experts who focus solely on non-surgical cosmetic procedures and who have expansive medical expertise. Every provider in our office is thoroughly trained directly by the innovator of the device or technology to prevent hand-me-down information. When it comes to offering procedures like Sofwave™, we recognize that there is an artistry in the delivery of the treatment, and the outcome depends heavily on understanding how to tailor our services to each unique patient.
To avoid aesthetic fads that have no lasting value Dr. Christine Stanko personally vets every new device that we bring into the office, and only after she tries it herself and does extensive research, does it make the cut. This helps us deliver real results to real patients.
You have invested your time and hard-earned money on a Sofwave™ treatment at Bryn Mawr Dermatology. Logically, the next step is to get excited about results! Because this procedure depends on your own body’s ability to respond to the stimulation received by the device, the results are extremely natural-looking and specific to your unique anatomy. Patients have experienced a dependable improvement in the firmness and tautness of the skin, resulting in fewer and less defined wrinkles and lines. Studies have also shown that due to this contracture of the skin you can see a visible lift and decrease in total tissue at the sight of treatment. This is most notable in areas where skin tends to sag and crease like the upper eyelids, brow, jowl, neck and chin.
It is also because we depend on your body’s response to see results that the timeline is approximately 4 weeks to start seeing the outcome of your treatment, and a full 3 months before you can gauge your final response. The process is called neocollagenesis and neoelastinogenesis where the “neo” means “new” and “genesis” translates to “development or production of.” In a healthy human, the process of producing new collagen and elastin can take anywhere from four to twelve weeks, which accurately predicts the time it takes to see results. We encourage patients to attend their post-procedure check ups so we can compare apples to apples, or in this case skin to skin.
Expression lines, like crow’s feet, smile lines, and forehead wrinkles may become noticeable in your 30s and deepen over time as collagen production naturally slows. No one escapes the effects of time, and we know how frustrating it can be to look in the mirror and see a reflection of someone older, someone more tired, than you feel.
If you’re looking for a treatment to restore youthful and smooth skin, trust the Botox®, Dysport®, & Xeomin® providers at Bryn Mawr Dermatology. This popular cosmetic injectable is loved by patients who want to look like the best version of themselves.
